Flea Issues? Save $$ and treat safer!
Unrefined organic coconut oil
Lavender essential oil
Mix together and massage in furry friends coat
Replace solid coconut oil with fractioned and spray onto coat
Mix lavender with baking soda and sprinkle onto carpet and furniture to be rid of fleas
Use vinegar, peroxide, baking soda, lavender mix in carpet cleaner for safer better carpet cleaning and flea battle
A bottle 15ml of Lavendar Oil is $28 retail or $21 wholesale. Seems like a lot for such a little bottle however for 6 cats I can do three treatments which would have cost me a minimum of $1080 using the stuff I feel is unsafe and not any more effective.

My start and continuing education with Essential Oils. I started researching oils due to a GBM Brain Cancer battle. This eventually led me to learning that Essential Oils are far more then they seem. I want to share what I learn and what my experiences are with the oils I research and use. I do not offer any medical advice, cures or treatments. Please complete your own research to decide if you would find anything from this blog beneficial.

Yummy Easy Bread Dip
Ingredients:
¼ cup olive oil
1-3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar to taste
½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese (optional)
1-3 drops dōTERRA Oregano essential oil (start with a toothpick and progress toward drops for desired flavor)
Directions:
1. Gently mix together all ingredients in a bowl large enough to dip into.
2. Dip favorite Italian style bread into bowl and enjoy.
Rosemary
I really must start sniffing Rosemary! I love to use fresh rosemary when roasting poultry but I have learned a drop of Rosemary essential oil in the crockpot or roasting pan doubles the yumminess!
Yummy Immune Booster
I saw this and thought it sounded like a yummy way to boost my immune system! I tried some yogurt and liked it a lot. Then I added a teaspoon of local honey and it was extra extra yummy! And my stuffy nose went away!

How I Pick Where to Buy My Oils
So I found myself in this oil world where there are a lot of questions and honestly a lot of passion. Some believe others don't, arguments get heated and insults are thrown. I find all that useless. I want to see proof and I want to know real people who experienced good or bad. Sometimes I feel it is nature against man And company against company with no regard for what is actually the best answer.
I decided first I needed to order several different brands of oils. I ordered from several companies that had good reviews to begin with. Then I started reading and learning more. Organic, non GMO, self owned farms, grown in USA, testing and on and on it went. Let me tell you now that there are at least three other companies that if DoTerra was not here I would go with however there are some things I like about DoTerra and the people I have had communication with from DoTerra.
I will not be talking about other companies specifically here as I picked mine and I believe in the one I picked. If you choose another I just ask you spend the time to read past all the surface stuff and dig in so you make a decision yourself and not be lead by others passions and opinions. Pick one by oil quality, mission, and people you connect with best. In the oil world there is a lot of sharing of ideas so feel comfortable with those you might be using as your resources. Do not get stuck thinking that the company you decide to buy your core products from is the only place you can buy from. It does not matter if you sell it or not and it is not about loyalty it is about making the right decision for yourself.
Now what helped me decide what oil company I choose as my main supplier. And yes I do order from others if they have something I want and I feel the quality is good. Now this area could get all scientific with resources listed but I am gonna just tell you in my simple words.
Lemons can be found in many countries however some are different then others. In fact you can even grow lemon trees where they have never been grown before by grafting, mutating, sheltering and other methods. However you do not have the tree that is going to carry the original properties in most cases and even trees in different areas of the world will produce fruit that has different properties.
The soil, nutrients, seeds, water, air, growing methods, and environment all contribute to what ends up in the plant. Organic just isn't good enough. Just like a tomato grown out back, one grown on the family farm, and one mass produced will all taste different and will hold different nutrients even if all are organic beefeater tomatoes. So to begin with indigenous growing location was important to me as that is where the original essentials came from. HOWEVER I do sometimes check into non-indigenous based on several factors including what exactly I am needing from the oil. And yes I will address the own the farm or not own the farm issue lower down.
The next thing I looked into was harvesting. Now this area really has very little room to switch around. Either the plant or the plant part is harvested correctly and at the right time or it is not. First lets discuss that essential oils are from the whole plant comments makes no sense sometimes. You do not process an entire Boswellia tree to get frankincense as the resin is what holds the essential oil frankincense. Meaning the right part of the plant needs to be processed to get useful essential oils. Now let's look at the banana. A green banana has less sugar than a yellow banana so harvesting at the right time is important. With a banana we also know that if we buy a green banana it will ripen over time however if we pick lettuce leaves they do not ripen anymore. Harvesting a plant to get the right constituents requires for the right part of the plant to be harvested at the right time by the right method and handling.
So we have our harvested plant or parts of a plant. Now what? No we are not there yet. Next there is the processing to get the oil. Which broccoli has the most nutrients? Which broccoli is the healthiest? A. Broccoli grown correctly, harvested correctly and eaten raw or B. Broccoli that was grown correctly, harvested correctly and then boiled for an hour or C. Broccoli steamed and then smothered in butter, cheese, and salt? Oils work the same way. If you heat them they lose constituents and the chemical makeup changes and if you add anything you can counteract their healthiness and effectiveness. Some oils such as those coming from many citrus fruits are cold pressed from the rind/peel where the oil pockets are located. Other oils are processed through a steam distillation that uses a low heat to boil the water which is then infused or run into the same chamber as the plant parts then since oil and water do do mix the oils separate from the water in a third chamber. Heating oils should be avoided when possible as this changes the chemical make up. Oils are volatile meaning they evaporate quickly so you lose the benefits by heating them.
Now let's address the markings of 100% pure oil or oraganic oil on the packaging of oils. Sounds good doesn't it? But is it? I can raise organic plants harvest them early or distill them in heat or cold press from a moldy rind/peel and still have my oil marked 100% pure and organic. I can also have a completely correctly processed oil that I add organic carrier oils to that I can label organic but you still end up with a less potent mix. So you see our regulations at this time do not meet our needs. As I researched I did find that some other countries do have more regulations on oils and yes some of their oils I find excellent.
Some companies choose testing their oils. They test by third party, themselves, or random, or every batch. There are many different choices of how a company chooses to test and what tests they run. Different tests could show if there are any additives, if the oils have been adultered, what constituents and what percentage of each constituent is present, if there are contaminants. This also is up to whether the company chooses to test for these differences. I will discuss this more below but please if the oil says not for human consumption or for fragrance only or do not ingest please just leave that oil where it is when you first saw it as these type oils can be dangerous to place on skin or inhale or of course ingest. They will not give you the benefits you are looking for and could harm you.
Now one of the things that causes some heated arguements. One company runs tests themselves and through third party and once they feel that the batch is pure and contains the correct constituents and no contamanints they mark their oils therapeutic grade. Some people get upset because they feel betrayed because they had the impression this was given by some outside regulatory group. Is it good for marketing? Ummm yes of course! Very few people are in business for no profit! Could they cheat by not living up to the high standards they set for themselves? Yes however to what purpose? If the oils do not work or cause harm when used correctly they would go out of business. I personally like the fact that they set a standard. And yes it is trademarked. Why not trademark it otherwise their own testing system would mean nothing because anyone could use their seal.
Next is the passionate arguements of owning ones own farms or not. Sounds good because it lets the company control a lot of what goes into the plants. Now let me make this very clear because this is where I hear a lot of people say "but it is not grown in the right place, the right soil, the right environmental conditions". The farms do not necessarily have to be in the same country of the company and several companies that own some or all of the own farms do own them in the areas the plants are indigenous. I think it is great they own their own farms. I also know that this does not mean the growth and harvesting is completed correctly any more than not owning the farm it only allows more control if the opportunity is taken.
An alternative to self owned farms that I personally like and appreciate is a program in which the company goes in and helps the community around where crops are grown to become self staining as many of the crops needed are in under developed areas. For instance the area much vetiver is grown is under developed and vetiver crops were inconsistent and quality was inconsistent. One company went in and set up training for farmers, removed unneeded brokers, setup up payment programs so that farmers and their families received money in a more consistent and timely manner. This helps provide a solid crop more often and a community that can work towards taking care of themselves along with teaching volunteers what is happening out there in other parts of the world. For me this is important.
This is basically the pattern I followed while researching and making the decision to use essential oils and where to buy essential oils and what company I would feel comfortable to recommend and sell essential oils from. I do have one last subject I want to talk about.
Ingesting essential oils. First and foremost please research the subject and make your own decision based on the facts. Many people say ingest and many people say this is dangerous. It gets very ugly. It is your personal decision. I based my decision on the above research, that the FDA actually does have a list of essential oils that are GRAS,FA,and FL. Lemon is on that list and is usually one of the oils that start the passionate arguements. Many many companies put out lemon essential oil and many many companies do not have the quality of oil that is safe to ingest. Now many trained and untrained people feel it is safe and many trained and untrained are horrified that anyone would even consider ingesting. I myself find it horrifying some of the medicines people choose to ingest and don't start me on food. I also find it ironic that medicines are ingested without checking their side affects but oils are called into question instantly on mention of ingesting. Do I ingest? Yes as a matter of fact I made a personal decision based on the research I did and consulting with many trained people educated in the world of oils, science, medical and medicine. If you read my two first blogs you know already I must work with a team to make medical decisions. I also reach out beyond that team because they admit some things they are not sure about. Also I want to point out that your individual health affects what you choose to put in your body whether it is medicine, food, oils, herbs, etc. if your digestive system is damaged maybe lemon is not the thing to put in your body but neither is BC Powder. Or maybe one or both these would help you. My instincts say no and my brain says if I consider it I should get advice from someone educated beyond what any oil company tells me. Warning though you must understand the medical profession is just now being reintroduced to oils and that these oils were used throughout history and modern medicine started with plants being used to treat ailments.
Sorry one last notation on picking a foundation for my oil buying. The more I read and communicated with others I found the company rhetoric coming from followers and consultants tiring and useless in most cases because I was getting answers from people repeating what they had been told however they seemed to be clueless in understanding the details and meaning of the information. As I observed this I found that some groups were more nasty about their communication when talking about other companies. I find that detrimental to the oil world and just a repeat of political and religious arguements. I did not feel that I would work well with people that competed and instantly argued that their product were the best no matter what was being questioned. This is not a sports game or a question of vanilla vs chocolate. This was about health and quality of life which I find worthy of listening to all information and deciding for myself what was best for me and those I will share with in the future. I feel this world has enough negativity without adding it to my studies of essential oils. It only clouds people's opinions and creates a shallow senseless following with no knowledge which feeds to the idea that the oils world is nonsense and for people who are not knowledgable which is very far from the truth. And by the way world renowned so and so for supporting any company does not make that person better then the world remowed for another and a person does not need to be the worlds renowed expert to have useful correct knowledge on a subject. Many unknowns have discovered and invented some wonderful things throughout history. Throwing names around to back a claim is only a portion of the proof needed to make a well informed decision.
Just a reminder I am not educated in science, medicine, medical, alternative medicine or anything else that matters. My formal education has no relation to my health so please make sure you research and make decisions based on what you learn. My words are only here to tell my personal story.

Part 2 Why? Beginning this Journey!
Ok first I have to admit that this part of getting my blog started is making me a tiny bit nervous. I am all excited to share uses of essential oils with all of you and about the oils themselves however I feel it only right to share my reasons for getting into something I thought was just another scam UNTIL I researched and tried them myself!
We left off with the fact that the MRI's showed no swelling. In fact they showed shrinkage of the edema area in the surgery area! So at this time we were able to remove two medicines from his daily routine plus OTC headache medicines for the most part. There has been one MRI since this and everything was still the exact same. This gave me time to research other things pertaining to GBM. I am constantly researching for ideas and studies. Along with that research I started looking for other solutions as I call them that Essential Oils could provide me and those I am taking care of and anyone else that might be interested.
My three grandchildren and daughter had moved in about 2 months before we found out about the Cancer and moved out about a month ago so for about 10 months they lived here. My grandson was actually born about a month after they came to stay and this all came with all it's own dramas. For a family that never has medical issues to worry about this past year has been one after another.
Now with all these little people around I had lots to worry with however I also had ideas of how essential oils could help. I pretty much left it alone at first though because I had my hands full. Next came my son helping the delivery man get an elliptical he ordered to get in shape into his house have his foot broke in three places when it fell on his foot. During this time my husband had been fighting what seemed the flu. About two weeks after my son arrived to stay while he needed some assistance with getting around my husband collapsed in the closet.
He had just finished a second round of antibiotics. I called EMS and followed to the hospital. We got there and at first they tried to blame the chemo and the cancer then it was about a weak immune system and it kept along those lines with me fuming and arguing. They talked about sending him home and I was furious because I had no answer and no solution. He was congested, coughing, weak, severe headache which is always a scare with brain cancer. They finally ran a CTscan which the said was fine and a chest X-ray which they said had some streaks but not bad. Now the issue for me was as soon as my husband drank anything he had diarrhea. This was severely dehydrating him, he had not eaten for about 4 days and could barely stay awake to make a sentence. They finally decided to keep him overnight for observation.
So after another push from me we were in a room and he had an IV for hydration and a little pain killer for the severe headache. Somehow they wanted him to drink water and take Tylenol at first. Yes I was livid we could have done that at the house. So we spent the night with him demanding to go home and me arguing to stay put (this is normal ... After about 4 hours he always starts having fits to go home). The nurse in the morning said discharge. Ummmmm NO where is the doctor I want some answers. Then the first doctor tried the it is the Cancer thing. No again get me someone around here that is familiar with brain cancer.
Finally a doctor came in that had reviewed the scans, called to compare earlier scans at the primary and called the primary and the oncologist team. He put together that my husband had been battling the flu, pneumonia, a stomach virus, and the CTScan showed a current and nasty nasal infection. This made more sense because the house was full of children that tend to carry germs and even I had been battling several cold and stomach like issues throughout the month. Hydration had lowered the intensity of the headache so he was released with an antibiotic.
Yep this was my breaking point. Enough of all these antibiotics that tear up the body and were not working. I had done enough research that I was ready to try Essential Oils outside of just Frankincense. Now I had ordered a few off the Internet of different brands and bought a diffuser that I barely used yet and some oils from the local natural health store that I had researched enough to try. To test these I tried them on cuts, sores, a little on congestion for myself and the baby, cleaning, moods, etc. I also ran across this page on Pinterest and I kept running across pins for this same persons blogs that I had made some lotions and scrubs.
Their words made me research more one this one company. Why should I pick them? Then I noticed I could save money by buying wholesale as I dug into her blog and then I realized she was making money selling these oils but she used them quite extensively herself. The more I read the more I related to her personality and how she looked at things. So when I got home with my husband before I even laid down to try to nap I ordered an enrollement kit. Then I laid down and thought "you fool it is just junk and a scam."
While I waited for my kit I used oils I had. And yes I had thrown some out because of the quality but I still had some from about 4 different companies I felt I could use. I started diffusing a blend that supposedly would fight germs and in between I diffused a mixture that I put together For congestion from recipes I had found and researched why they should work. You know what? Everyone was breathing better and everyone had less congestion. In fact snoring in the house had reduced tremendously also. Then the day my oils showed up (I think I did two day shipping or something like that) my husband was eating, moving around, drinking liquids. This gave me courage so I started making blends of my own and putting on the feet and covering them with socks of all sickly people in the house. I diffused the blend I got in my kit that was to fight germs and mixed it in spray bottles with vinegar and cleaned everything I had energy to clean.
The outcome? What do you think? I am writing a blog which I swore I would never ever waste my time to do because I had no time for things like that. Colds, flus, viruses, headaches, snotty noses, vomiting, diarrehea, and all that yuckiness was gone within two days of receiving my kit. Was it the oils? Once again I am not a doctor or scientist so I have no education to give you a definitive answer but if I could have started earlier I would go back and do it!
Do you know why putting oils on the feet works? Because the pores are larger so they enter the body easier and faster. Just thought I would share that cause this household of people needing me to take care of them all laughed and argued when I was insisting.
So with that challenge conquered I started on my grandsons itchy, dry, rashy skin. And yes the doctor has a diagnosis for what causes it but hey I don't need a name I just needed to know what oils had constituents to help soothe this issue. I mixed raw Shea butter, fractioned coconut oil, lavender, frankincense, and melaluca. It started going away and he stopped scratching. Now it still needs treated and no it is not his diet and that has all the dairy, gluten, sugar etc removed but this and baths with the same oil mix works very well and he has break outs a lot less (usually in certain environments that we believe might have allergens that aggravate).
This led to my daughter making her own baby wipes. Or maybe the first factor was she ran out and needed some and then after making them once has not turned back. Paper towels cut in half, tube removed, cup of hot water, tablespoon of organic coconut oil, teaspoon of organic baby wah and a 1/4 teaspoon of lavender essential oil. Put it all in a round container, shake it and let the paper towels absorb. Pull from the center for easy usage. These smell great and guess what the little boy has not had diaper rash since even with his sensitive skin.
Now that is why I got started and the basics of how I picked the company I picked. Next few blogs will be a little about what the oil company could do for me and some specifics of my choice along with some important information on the importance on buying a quality oil. Then onto shorter easier to read blogs of what I have learned, recipes for all sorts of things from food to scrubs, lotions, rollerball application, to making the bathroom smell more pleasant!
Thanks for hanging and reading what I have to share! If you want to check out my selling site please feel free. http://www.mydoterra.com/heatherpoole/

Why? Beginning this Journey!
This blog is to track and share my own experiences with Essential Oils. I have learned so much about something I thought was just for making things smell nice and for those dreaming of things that assisted them in daily life using their dreams to believe they worked.
If you are interested in the products I use and believe in enough to sell please feel free to browse the website listed. In fact if you choose to try essential oils and do not want to buy from me that is great and there are a few good companies out there ... Do your own research and pick one. Essential Oils are not just some natural trend. They have been used throughout history and there is science behind their usage so please leave any preconceptions behind and give them a try!

Let me say this just to be clear. I am not a doctor or any other medically trained individual. I do not know cures or treatments. This blog is about me and what I have learned through my own research and experiences.
Now on to my story. In July of 2014 I was in a store with my husband. He went to the restroom and the next time I saw him he was wandering the store and seemed confused. I finally got his attention and he did not know where he was, why I was there, where his children and grandchildren were, or what year it was at the time. In fact he did not remember his grandson who was about 1 month old.
On a 20 - 30 minute maunuvering and coaxing session to the car and ride to the hospital he went so far as to forget what a cell phone was or that he had been married 26 years. The 10 - 15 minute wait at the hospital took him from formed sentences to scrabbled words. CTScan showed his brain had a mass and had so much swelling it was pushed to the left side by 7mm. A transfer to a trauma unit at another hospital gave us several tumors and a clouding of cells that were predicted as cancerous due to the MRI. Surgery several days later after the swelling could be reduced to a point surgery was possible, seizure activity was not seen, and fever was reduced gave us the dreaded prognosis of Glioblastoma Mutliforma (GBM) mostly in the right temperal lobe.
GBM is referred to as a death sentence in many articles. 14 months after resection of any sort is the average life expectancy. The more that can be resected the longer the life expectancy however there was much left in my husbands case due to location. It is the brain and some areas are just to dangerous to touch. So to research I went. I read, asked questions, made phone calls, ordered books, and searched the Internet. You know what I got? A bunch of depressing information. No cure, no way to slow down, and longest survivor was in a tiny percentage.
I learned GBM does not have the funding that other cancers have, that the only thing cancers have in common are they are abnormal cells, about 2% of Cancer patients have GBM (16,000 - 20,000), patients with GBM have less finacial assistance than other more mainstream known cancers, that treatments were all basically poisoning the body.
So I kept reading as an aggressive 6 week radiation / chemotherapy treatment started. I find sugar and carbs feed Cancer cells, vitamin D3, vitamin C, vitamin K2, vitamin E, can assist the body in fighting the Cancer. And there are many more. Did you know the daily recommended dosages of vitamin and minerals were the minimum amount for a completely healthy body? I start changing the diet plan .... This I can tell you is not easy with a hardheaded person. I started adding supplements after researching each ones source, ability for the body to absorb, and interactions with all other medication and supplemental intakes. I added each to the doctors list also to make sure I did not do something to their conventional treatment that was dangerous or counteractive.
I kept coming up with Boswellia. Well I did not know what Boswellia was so I started searching for this highly recommended item. A Boswellia tree is where Frankinscense comes from and to this I rolled my eyes but I kept reading. A lot of the research I started with was out of Germany but eventually I got deeper and found more throughout the world. At this time I started seeing Essential Oils over and over again. I ignored it and looked for a pill or capsule form and still I came up with Essential Oils.
Ok fine I gave in and started to look at aromatherapy seeing no purpose for smelling things and expecting results. Let me tell you I had no idea what Essential Oils really were or what aromatherapy really entailed. From here I started researching oil companies. I picked the one I buy from after some extensive research, testing of my own, studying what really made a difference, and asking questions of anyone I could including a few doctors.
During this time I was intriqued with other oils however tunnel vision kept me with studying Frankinscense. At this same time my husband was still on a steroid and the two times we had tried to remove the steroid he had enough swelling to cause some sort of reaction that appeared to be similar to a seizure. He gained 50 pounds on that steroid, his blood pressure was going up, he was fatigued, had headaches, seemed foggy and confused, and you can just imagine internal organs the steroid was tearing up. I had already decided if I could not beat the blasted GBM I was going to keep his body from breaking down to cause more issues and pain.
We tried a third time to remove the steroids and again had an issue. I read some more about withdrawal from steroids. This is where I decided to introduce the frankincense. It was supposedly known to be able to move through the brain blood barrier (many things can not make it through this extra barrier so what might work on the Cancer itself can not even make it into the needed area to try). So a month and a half later the next MRI and there is no swelling and less headaches.
Did it really reduce the swelling and headaches and lower the blood pressure? I am not a doctor or any other trained person that could give an educated answer however the swelling has not returned and the steroids are no longer being used and the blood pressure has been reduced.
So this is how I started in the oil world. Once I saw what I think was results from the oil, I have tried many other oil applications and although some didn't work many seem to work and make my life healthier, easier, and happier. I will be sharing with those of you that choose to read my blog entries the rest of my story up to the present time than I plan to continue to share with you as I learn and move forward.
